Solar Panel Battery Chargers Yesterday to Today

Solar panel battery chargers are not new. In fact, attempts to capture the power of the sun has been a project since early man. In the fifteenth century, Leonardo da Vinci studied the sun and ways to harness its power. The sun was recognized for its ability to give more than just heat and light.

Looking back to the early Romans and Greeks, we find sun worshippers, sun gods, and mystical beings.

In more recent years, capturing the sun’s power to be stored in batteries has been around long before the fuel shortage of the seventies.

Solar Cell Heats Water In A House

The first solar cell was used by Charles Fritz in 1883. He managed to turn the suns rays into electricity with it. Later, in the 1880s,  a solar cell was used to warm water in his house.

From that megre beginning, the studies continued. Even though the possibilities of using up all of the nonrenewable resources was well known in the nineteenth century, people around the world still chose to use coal and other nonrenewable energy sources as though they would never end. Today we are aware of the result of not being more environmentally conscious.

Bell Labs Discovers Silicon Application

Three scientists from Bell Labs, Calvin Fuller, Daryl Chaplin and Gerald Pearson made the discovery that silicon was a very good semiconductor.

As a result of that discovery, today solar cells and panels are usually made of silicon.

These small yet applaudable steps were baby steps to the many uses of solar energy today. Now, solar energy is influencing the production of energy much more than those in history ever imagined.

It is no longer history, it is the future that depends on solar power. The focus is on the ability of the sun as an energy source. It is also acceptance that something must be done to ensure to not deplete the earth of nonrenewable resources. We need to think generations ahead, not simply a few years into the future.

When the price of oil doubled in the seventies, the government of the United States decided to invest time and funds into the development of the solar panel battery charger.

Today the assortment of solar powered battery chargers is amazing. When you inventory your electronic gadgets, you know that everyone needs to be charged in one way or another. You will find out that most of those electric chargers can be replaced by solar battery chargers.

The solar panel battery charger works through solar panels. When these panels are placed in direct sunlight, the panels convert the energy from the sun and store it in the battery.

Portable solar chargers are available and built into many small devices. An example is solar powered calculators. They have been around for decades. At first large and cumbersome, they are now pocket sized and more efficient today.

Solar Battery Chargers

Internal solar batteries are generally what you will find in small hand held devices.

External solar panel battery chargers are great when you are not anywhere close to an electricity power source. They are ideal for cabins in the woods, while travelling on holiday and dry camping, and in times of power outages.
