When Christmas rolls around we pull out the decorations and put up the tree. This is such a fun month and we love to see our children’s faces light up when they look at the different lights strung all over the inside and outside of the home. The one downside to this is that the monthly bills are enormous!

Actually, in recent years, if you look around and search for sales, solar based Christmas lights can be around the same price and typical LED based Christmas lights or even lower. It depends on the store and brand you buy of course.
When in search for the right solar Christmas lights you need to compare the various average illumination time that each of them have. Most will be able to stay lit between seven and eight hours. However, you might find some that are able to last up to fifteen hours. It is safe to say that the more illumination time they have the more expensive they will be.
There are two types of Christmas lights; steady and blinking. Decide for yourself which you would like to use on the exterior of your home. If you would like to change it up sometimes than purchase the kind that will allow you to choose between the two. Just make sure that the switch for this is easily accessible.
During the winter you are going to have some days when the clouds are out and the snow or rain is falling (depending on where you live). This will prevent the sunlight from charging the lights and it will have to rely on batteries. It is easiest to get the lights that use the rechargeable batteries. This will keep you from having to buy a lot of them.
The price for these is going to be a whole lot more than the electric lights. For $4 you can get a hundred or more string lights that function through electricity. However, you will have to spend anywhere between $15 to $60 for a set of two hundred lights that function through solar power.
